Miscellaneous Steel Stairs with Rails for Medical Building

This featured project involved the design and installation of two complicated staircases, with picketed and glass handrails and minimal structural steel. One of the staircases featured stringers and was on a skew, making it difficult to build and erect. The second staircase, featuring HSS for stringers, had a slight radius in the outside stringer, thus further complicating the design and installation. Avenue Fabricating, Inc. rose to the challenge and was able to successfully execute this project.

As a 125-ton job, a large amount of varying material was used throughout the process. For surface preparation, we used SSPC-SP6 for handrails and guardrails, and structural steel SSPC-SP3. We also used wide flange beams grade A992; channels, squares, and angles grade A36; plate grade 50; and pipe and HSS grade A500-GrB. The entire project took 8 months and took place at the Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
